The Sue Review: Alila VIP & Media Launch

Hi Lovelies!

I was invited to attend the Alila VIP and Media Launch. Here are my thoughts after attending this stunning event.

Alila Professional Makeup hosted it’s public store launch at House of An Image Emporium in Greenstone Shopping Centre, Johannesburg, earlier this month. The exclusive media and VIP launch took place on the evening of the 4th February, where local media and celebs were invited to experience the daringly in your face brand in a unique, fun setting. I was excited to be one of the guests, so I called my girlfriend Sam, we dressed up and were on our way to see what Alila had to offer.

Alila’s focus is aimed at the professional market, working with training institutions, makeup artists, beauty salons and the like, as well as the retail market, and has taken to the streets on a mission to prove their core belief – that every face is a potential masterpiece.

We snacked snacked on some finger foods and took full advantage of the colourful candy bar. Talk about a sweet event!

As a VIP guest, we were submerged into a world of colour, candy, pamper stations and spoils. In addition to this, Alila threw Pravda Vodka into the mix to add a little extra kick to this dazzling event. The ladies that attended the launch got to enjoy product discounts of 30% as well as free brow services, waxes or tints with their purchases needless to say, the store was abuzz with excitements and shrills of joy!

Ladies were given a mini make-over by professional Makeup Artist Tamsin.
We were introduced to BattleHouse Cosmetics brushes and Fake Bake (New Brands to watch)

Beauty guru and Alila Founder, Tamsin van der Spuy (Pictured above), saw to it that there were years of research and development behind the product formulations in order to ensure that they were hypoallergenic (won’t clog up your pores), and remained free from any harmful substances that could damage your precious skin. The range has also been developed with the South African woman in mind; the products are high in pigment, ensuring that the colour will work well on all skin tones from light to dark.

I was given an explanation about the brand by kind host, Brandon. Alila is a brand that translates affordable makeup with good quality produced in Europe.

The covetable range embraces a fearless and bold use of colour. It’s packaging is vibrant and the team is confident there is a palette to suit every fashionista’s needs. Alila is also perfectly priced for every pocket, whether you are a Makeup Artist starting to build your professional artillery of tools and musthaves, or an everyday lady wanting to look her best. The range can be easily purchased online or in store.

I was interviewed by the Citizen Newspaper about attending the launch. I was asked a few questions about my blog. So that was nice of them to have a personal interest.

House of An Image Emporium is indeed a place that you have to visit. The store stocks amazing brands such as BattleHouse Makeup brushes, LVX Nail polish, Fake Bake, the worlds number 1 premium self-tanning brand and Alila ofcourse. I look forward to trying out these new must-have brands.

Many Special VIP guests attended the gorgeous event, pictured here with the Pravda vodka Background. Pravda was quenching the thirst of the VIP Guests in attendance.

The launch was a wonderful success and I can truly say that I was impressed by all the effort that went into this launch. I cannot wait to see what Alila has in-store in the near future. I wish Alila all of the best and many more years of success. With that being said I want to congratulate the store owner  Nerike Engelbrecht on such an amazing launch. Nerike, you are indeed an inspiration to many ambitious young women out there.

Introducing the 3D Makeup Printer… Wait what?

Grace Choi, My new inspiration. Gosh this woman rocks. representing all the geek girls globally.

Good Morning Everyone! We are heading to the weekend, so just hang in there…

So there is a woman called “Grace Choi” and she is the inventor of a printer called “Mink” So Mink is a 3D Make up printer. This Harvard Woman is Blowing Up The $55 Billion Beauty Industry With 3D Printed Makeup.

And I quote from the Business Insider:

Her product, Mink, promised to help anyone easily 3D print their own makeup from any home computer. All that was required was a colorful image from the Internet, a tool like Photoshop that could lift a hex color code, and a Mink Printer, which hooks up to a computer to print specific ink colors on colorless shadows and creams.

I came across the video recorded by CNN Money, and my mind was blown. I love technology and this is just epic. I am just so impressed with this. The make-up industry is shaken up about this. I’d love to see this in reality.

This is what Choi has to say about the Makeup Industry.

The makeup industry makes a whole lot of money on a whole lot of bullshit,” Choi explained during her TechCrunch Disrupt presentation.

So how does it work?

Simply choose a color on a website, Pinterest board, or snap one with your phone in the real world, and use any color picker to locate the hex code of the color. Once you have the code, you can put it into any other program like Photoshop or Paint and simply press print.

Easy Peasy right?

The Mink costs less than $200, with plans to launch later in the year. Grace Choi is very adamant that big makeup companies take the pigment and the substrates and mix them together and then jack the price. We do the same thing and let you get the makeup right in your own house.

My take on it?

I’m very interested to see this printer. Mink is 3D printer that print out eyeshadows, powders and lipsticks in any color you can find online. As a techy things like this just inspires one to reach for their dreams. Grace Choi has indeed disrupted the Make-up industry with Mink. My question is: What is the beauty industry saying about this new invention

Let me know your thoughts below? Would you buy this printer?

Sincerely Sue
