Get to know me better as I accepted the 21 question challenge. Here we go…

When people give me a challenge I have this bad habit of not refusing. In the name of fun, I think getting to know me takes more than 21 questions, but it’s a start to what is currently going on this mind of mine. I have nothing to lose, so let’s go!

NB: None of the following answers were meant to offend anyone. It’s just the first thing that popped in my head. Just saying.

  1. What is your current fashion obsession?
  • Well it’s the month of Ramadaan, so I love my scarves. I’m not an “old-school doekie person” So I love Pashmina’s paired with bright colours.
  • I’m also into boots and Jeggings or leggings paired with a lovely dress or cardi. It has to be super comfortable, or I’m not wearing it.
  1. What are you wearing today?

A comfy warm grey tracksuit, woolen socks, a scarf. (The perks of working from home)

  1. Hair?

I just washed it; it’s in a bun. But I’m lazy to blowdry it and curl it into pretty waves. Oh well. The turban look will do.

  1. Do you nap a lot?

When I’m not on the road for meetings, I secretly take my “Power” naps when I can. It’s a good refresher especially if you do what I do. Being creative is my job. But the minute my family walks in the door, I go into mommy and wife mode. Naps don’t exists in this period of the day, it’s strictly family time.

  1. Why is today special?

Hmmm.

  • Last year this time I was at a very low moment in my life. A year later, and I’m stronger than ever.
  • I had a good conversation with my dad this morning. Life has been nice and relaxing since the fast started.
  1. What would you like to learn to do?
  • Learn to speak 3 more languages namely: Arabic, French and African language
  • Play the Bass guitar. Always had a fascination with it. (Starting a band baby, starting a band – Okay boring joke, but that was a line in a TV commercial)
  • I would love to know how to drift in my own collection of Super-cars some day (BMW M3, Audi R8, Jaguar F-TYPE Coupe and Nissan GTR). Seriously, it’s an adrenaline kick just watching drivers do that. (I probably have people saying: What? and Huh? Hahahaha )
  1. What’s for dinner today?
  • Well, we are fasting. It has to be well balanced when it comes to protein and vegetables to sustain our diet. I’m thinking protein and roast veggies on the side.
  • I plan to make Koesisters tonight with the family. Should be fun.

Shall we move on with the food talk? I can’t start thinking about food while fasting.

  1. What are you listening to right now?

Crazy in love (Acoustic version) Yes, I’m a hopeless romantic.

  1. What is your favorite weather?

I’m a spring baby. So a sunny day, birds chirping and picnic weather.

  1. What’s the last thing you bought?

Spices for my Malay dishes. Cant live without my Jeera, Masala and Danya during the fast. I am sounding like the typical Cape Malay Muslim now.

  1. What are your essentials when traveling?
  • Toiletry bag with loads of products. Think necessities.
  • Comfy clothes and shoes. I can’t travel in jeans. Driving or flying.
  • Clothes for the particular season. Think very lady-like clothes and gorgeous shoes.
  • My work laptop and phone. I’m a media professional and writer that lives and work online.
  • I am prone to back ache after walking or sitting for a long time, so I have a special Chiropractic heat therapy bean bag to soothe the pain.
  • Enough spending money and people to spend it with.
  1. What’s your style?
  • Modest with a hint of sophistication. I can be very down to earth with dressing, but it will always have a pop of colour. With being tall, I don’t do short dresses, so you’ll see me in long dresses and skirts functions, A decent pair of Jeans and blazers that fit well. Shoes that have ankle support.
  • and ofcourse my Red lips 🙂

I didn’t want boobs and become a woman with curves.

  1. What is your most challenging goal right now?

Personally, I’m trying to deal with the death of my grandmother. Tomorrow will be one month since her passing. I’ve been crying a lot. I don’t think I’ve made peace with it yet. I’m still heartbroken. It’s not so much of a goal, but I know she would have wanted me to accept it and move on, but I’m taking my time because she was like a 2nd mother to me. I still can’t believe that she’s not here anymore. (Water works just started again. Ai, fetching tissues)

  1. If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you like it to be?

I was born in the most beautiful city in the world. It has to be Cape Town. A beautiful home with the view of the ocean and beautiful open spaces with stunning and simplistic décor.

  1. Favorite vacation spot?

Hmmm. That’s a tough one. But it will have to be where I can just relax, get a massage and have a stunning view in front of me. Even though I am an extrovert and I love having loads of people around me when it comes to vacations. Being alone, reading a book while sitting on a bench by the beach will do it for me.

  1. Name the things you cannot live without?
  • Emotionally: God, My loved ones (Close and extended Family and friends), Happiness and having a purpose in life.
  • Physically: Love, The Comfort of my own home, Watching series, Family visits, My MacBook Air, Unlimited data and my phone.
  1. How was your childhood?

On school, I had to overcome loads of bullying due to not having what other kids had. It was really hard, but I had to focus on my goals and push through. You see the best revenge is success.

I was raised by: two loving parents and grandparents. My uncles and aunts also added lots of value as some of them helped kept me grounded. My dad worked 12 hour days to sustain us as family with the necessities, and my mom left her job to raise 3 daughters. Family means a lot to me, because of how I saw my parents work hard to give me everything I needed. I was the big sister, taught my sisters everything and even helped them figure out their signatures. Which they still use up to this day. I was the token “ambitious geek child” and you’d find me in a library every week until the age of 20 (No jokes)

On the funny side and a TMI (Too much information) Warning coming next:

I was a proud late bloomer. I didn’t want boobs and become a woman with curves, I loved being a child growing up in CPT. I loved hop scotch, playing “drie stokies”, shooting marbles, playing “Kenekie” and enjoyed playing in the streets with a skipping rope. I started my own dance club with my girlfriends called MGK. (Millennium Gospel kids) Oh my hat, the memories of dancing to Kirk Franklin in church are coming to mind. It was all in the name of fun.

On school, I had to overcome loads of bullying due to not having what other kids had. It was really hard, but I had to focus on my goals and push through. You see the best revenge is success. Today I know how to take a negative situation and make it a positive one. I actually want to thank my bullies. Because of them, I pushed myself to be a success and my ambition grows bigger with every achievement. Having morals, setting high standards for myself, loving and serving God was and still is my world.

My childhood was a good one. I remained being a child for as long as I could. Now that I think about it. Don’t grow up, it’s a trap 😉

  1. What would you like to have in your hands right now?
  • I’d hold the hands of my sisters and my school bestie (Rushka) who lives in the States. I miss them a whole lot. Holding their hands would mean they are close to me. 3 Brandt (Maiden surname) sisters together and things becomes a whole lot of fun.
  • … and a Red Velvet Cupcake with loads of frosting and heart sprinkles (Huge hint to my friend who nominated me for this, the lovely Madam Macaron)
  • Ooh, and a letter from someone saying: Sue, you are given a date night with your hubby. Consider your babysitting challenge sorted. (Gosh I need a date night)
  1. What are you most excited for?

A blessed future filled with love and success. Traveling and growing old with my other half. Seeing my child/ren grow up to be happy adults. Growing old with friends until we all have grey hair. Meeting new and amazing people. Moving back to Cape Town in a few years (Shhh. The secret is out)

  1. If you could go anywhere in the next hour, where would you go?
  • The world: The Maldives, in a luxury spa.
  • The universe: Heaven, to visit my grandparents.
  1. Which countries have you visited?

Thailand, France, Switzerland and Holland… and obviously South Africa when I do talks around the country in the major cities.

There you go. Thats a part me in 21 answers.

Sincerely Sue
