The Sue Review: The Olyfberg Beauty Range

Beauty:

[byoo-tee] –noun, plural 1. the combination of all the qualities of a person or thing

that delight the senses and please the mind

Hi Lovelies

More Than Skin Deep is about beauty. Real beauty. Authentic and sustainable beauty. It’s the whole answer to the question, That is why I am very conscious of which products I use. But most importantly is… What goes into your products? and how natural are they? This was until I was introduced to this proudly South African Brand: Olyfberg.

About Olyfberg: The Brand

Established olive producer, Olyfberg has put the “live” back in “olive” with their fresh, new range of olive beauty products.  Olive oil is already well-known for its excellent health benefits and often preferred for its anti-oxidative qualities and combatant effect on many lifestyle related diseases.  Olyfberg, situated near Robertson in the Western Cape, has now applied their intricate knowledge of this pitted fruit in producing a new olive oil skin range ensuring a more holistic approach to health and beauty.

Olyfberg beauty range: Beauty is more than skin deep

My Thoughts:

Olive oil, it’s something we all have in our pantry’s. I only cook with it, so when I was introduced to this brand, I was surprised as it was a first for me. I was pleasantly surprised by the range. It has that “wholesome” factor to it. So here is what I experienced by trying each product:

  • Kigelia Gel:

This little pot of wonder is such a must-have when it comes to summer. It was always in my bag on my holiday in CPT. It soothed my sunburnt arms and after gentle application. It has a clean smell with a hint of olive. I even used in on a mosquito bite and it stopped the itching!

  • Rejuvenating Kigelia-enriched Face Cream

This face-cream is a smooth texture and is very soft with application. It has a slight Olive scent but it’s not overbearing. I felt no irration with each use, which is good because I have very sensitive skin.

  • The Body Cream

This one is my favourite product of the range! Absolutely love it. After a shower, I slather this cream all over, its smells so good. It has good soothing properties and gives my skin that amazing healthy glow. It has a pastel green tint and is perfect to keep in  your handbag and can be used as a hand cream.

  • Handmade olive soap

This bar leaves the skin softer and smoother. Combine the naturally good olive this property into beauty soap and you will have a product that not only cleanses and nourishes the skin, but also prevents further drying and flaking.

Fun Fact:

Olive oil which is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, is a major component of the Mediterranean diet. Populations from that region have longer life expectancies and lower risks of heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke, compared with North Americans and Northern Europeans.

The Sue Review: My Lips love Lip Ice

Today I’m reviewing an old classic. Lip Ice.

It contains all the good stuff to keep your lips soft, moisturized and healthy throughout the day – Sue Levy

The Original Lip Ice has been here since the beginning; it is the original source of lip care and has been looking after South African lips since before you can remember. Since 1965, the REAL Lip Ice has been here to keep your lips moist and help keep you looking fresh. I have fond memories of seeing my parents put a tube in their pockets.

  • It contains all the good stuff to keep your lips soft, moisturized and healthy throughout the day.

So I reviewed the above-pictured range. Here are my thoughts:

I like the tint, it looks pretty.

Lip Ice Cherry

  • A beautiful cherry coloured lip balm at first glance.
  • Application is smooth on the lips, even when lips are chapped, it gets into those grooves and creates a protective film.
  • Leaves lips with a healthy red colour, which makes it look very kissable.
  • By far my favourite as lip-gloss can be sticky, this product is perfect to fit in your pocket and in your purse for a night out.
  • Retails for R18.99

Lip Ice Moisture

  • A good product if you have very dry and chapped lips.
  • I find that after a jog or walk, one is left with very dry lips due to the heavy breathing, this is where this one came in handy.
  • Works best for me when applied before bedtime as it gets time to do its job by filling all the cracks while you are asleep.
  • Gives a nice healthy glow.
  • Application is smooth, has no tint and leaves lips looking supple and naturally healthy.
  • Retails for R18.99

Lip Ice Honey Cream

  • This totally sounds yummy and is part of the Premium range.
  • Smells really good. Good enough to eat.
  • This product contains the good stuff namely: Shea Butter, Vitamin E and Vanilla so it has hydrating properties that leaves your lips less flaky.
  • If you apply to much it does feel a bit heavy, so light application works for me.
  • Retails for R18.99

Lip Ice Men Active (My husband gave it a try)

  • The Joburg/Pretoria weather tends to have a very dry effect on ones body, my husband used this for a while.
  • He liked the packaging, I guess all men love  the dark blue tube cover. So that was expected.
  • Application is smooth and as he says “Better than your usual Vaseline”
  • It contains SPF15 protection, which is needed for the Gauteng dry and hot weather.
  • I think it left his lips looking good, less chapped and absolutely smoochable (giggle)
  • A must-have for men.

In my opinion, the primary purpose of lip balm is to provide an layer on the lip surface to seal moisture in lips and protect them from external exposure. In our case with living in the Pretoria region, the dry air, cold temperatures, and wind all have a drying effect on skin and lips by drawing moisture away from the body. It’s a fact that ones lips are particularly vulnerable because the skin is so thin, and thus they are often the first to present signs of dryness. Hence why keeping lip balm on you is so important.

In Conclusion

It’s a little magic in a tiny tube – Sue Levy

I enjoyed trying out this product, which I think deserves the title of “Old Faithful” but with a modern twist. I love Lip Ice because the quality is good and overall it delivers on its promises for a very affordable price. I guess no one likes kissing someone with chapped lips, especially me. If you’re someone who is licking your lips right now (I just saw you do that, hehe) and they are feeling cracked and dry, I suggest you get yourself a tube of Lip Ice. It’s a little magic in a tiny tube.
